Kalani Mahi

He has a wealth of collegiate and international coaching experience. Prior to joining the UNI Panthers staff in 2004, Kalani served as head coach at the University of Oklahoma in the Big 12 Conference.

He also has previous experience in the Missouri Valley Conference, serving as head coach at Bradley University (1995-98), where he guided the Braves to three consecutive MVC tournament appearances and posted the school's most ever wins for a rookie coach. Mahi has also served as an assistant coach at Bradley (1992-95) and Illinois State (1998-2000).

A graduate of Graceland University in Lamoni, Iowa, Mahi was a collegiate club All-American, as well as team captain for the Yellowjackets. He later played and coached professionally overseas. Mahi also worked for USA Volleyball National Development Camps in Lamoni, Iowa, for 12 years as a head coach, court coach and camp clinician. He has a USA Volleyball Coaching Accreditation (CAP) Level II Certification.

After spending his final 15 coaching years with UNI under Bobbi Petersen, Kalani is now retired from collegiate coaching.

  • Participated in IGCA Senior All-Star Game (2018)

  • Mississippi Valley Conference Player of the Year her junior (2016) and senior seasons (2017)

  • Named to Des Moines Register's Iowa's Top 50 Greatest High School Players of All Time

  • PrepVolleyball Top 150 Senior Aces

  • PrepVolleyball"s Andie Collins Award Finalist (2018)

  • PrepVolleyball National Ranking as high as #29 (CIA 18Black), #31 (CIA 17Black) and #29 (CIA 16Black)

  • 2nd Place at Windy City Qualifier in the Open division in 2017 (CIA 17Black)

  • 7th Place at Colorado Crossroads Qualifier in the Open division in 2016 (CIA 16Black)

  • Bronze Medalist USA Volleyball Nationals in 2015 (CIA 15Black) and named to All-Tournament Team

  • Finished tied for 17th IN BVCA and AAU National Beach Championships (2018)
